Harem Pants

My typical Saturday work outfit. Comfortable, cute and casual. In the summer months I usually ONLY wear harem pants and palazzo pants. They are definitely staple items in my spring and summer wardrobe. This outfit was put together in less than 5 minutes. That's what I love about a nice printed and fun pant. You don't have to do much to make a cute outfit with them. They speak for themselves, so a simple top or blouse with casual shoes or a nice wedge usually looks effortless.
Now on to my outfit details. My pants are from last summer which I purchased at a Flea Market for $20! I absolutely love these pants to death. They are just so perfect for those casual summer days and they are also very light weight. My top is Calvin Klein from TJ Maxx for $19.99. My shoes are from the new Sam & Libby collection at Target. They were about $30. So overall this outfit was under $100. You can't beat that.
A super fun outfit for an affordable price!

Interview Outfit

This past Tuesday I had the pleasure of interviewing with Nordstrom's Tyson's Corner. I was super excited to here back from them after applying (randomly) for a position as a Personal Stylist Assistant. I did not think I would ever get an interview or get a call back from them. But indeed, God works in mysterious ways! I am not sure what the future holds for me but I am excited to here news back from them!

As far as my outfit details... I am wearing an olive green maxi dress from Forever 21's Contemporary line. I love this maxi. I am 5'8 so it is very hard for me to find maxi dresses and skirts that are long enough for me. This dress is super long and perfect! My cream blazer is also Forever 21 from last summer. I believe the material is chiffon so it is very light weight; perfect for the summer. My shoes are by Kors Ease which were a gift from my mentor Kathryn Martin last summer. We purchased these together at Nordstrom's Pentagon City. I have had my necklace for quite some time now and I am not sure where I purchased it from! This is my idea of an ideal summer interview outfit. It is still very formal and work appropriate but it is super fun, stylish and trendy for the spring and summer months.

Happy Mother's Day

I want to dedicate this post to an amazing women who has given me life and who is also continuously changing my life for the better. This is my mother; Hillary Davis. A single mom of three young ladies. A women who has been so strong and unremarkable amazing. My mother has the same story as many single mothers out there. She had her struggles and her down falls but she has never given up faith and hope. She is still learning and teaching as she goes. I have witnessed first hand everything that she has been through and everything she is still going through. When I was younger I could not understand what we were going through as a family or why we were going through it. But as I am learning and growing closer to my mother, she has shared things with me that have truly touched my heart. I have a new found respect for this women because now I truly know what she has endured for her family and most importantly for my 3 sisters and myself. She has been raising us all by herself for the past 20 years and I thank God for her strength and her love and support. Without her I would not have achieved much of what I have achieved today. I would not be as well driven and independent if it weren't for all of her teachings and all of her continuous support. I remember all of the long talks and the speeches she gave to me when I was younger. I always thought she was just nagging. But now I know that when she said "you can do whatever you want with hard work, dedication and faith" she was only instilling in me the foundation to success.
I can go on and on about how great and extraordinary my mother is. I hope and pray that one day I can take care of her the way she takes care of us and alleviate all of her troubles and worries. I just want her to know, that we are all okay. And that she taught us well.
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms who do it all with no pay and no days off!

All Black for Spring

All Black for Spring

Who says you can't wear all black for spring? I say you can totally rock the all black, hard core look this Spring. But you have to do it the right way. Black can be tricky to incorporate this spring and summer because of the heat and humidity. If you are going to wear all black for a casual weekend or even a formal event the easiest way to go is to wear a black flirty dress. I would stay away from fitted black dresses because as it hugs your body more, the hotter you will get. Black is a color that simply attracts heat. So you don't want anything that will completely form your body. A nice flirty dress, like the one above, will do you just fine. I personally love the shift dresses because I find them very flattering on all body types. And they are easy to dress up or down, depending on the day.

The gladiator knee high sandals are totally in for this spring and summer. They are a must have in your wardrobe if your an indie and hipster trend lover. These gladiator sandals scream out chic. They aren't made for everyone but if you can pull them off they're worth the investment. Of course for this outfit, the sandals make it more casual but you can pair this dress with a nice subtle wedge or open toe heel for a more formal look.

For accessories, I could not find what I would truly pair this outfit with on polyvore but I would have to wear a ton of bangles or a big and bold cuff. Possibly gold or maybe a leather cuff. Cuffs are my favorite jewelry piece for this spring and summer because of their boldness. With just about any outfit this spring, I'm sure a cuff would bring it together perfectly. The bag that I chose is something I would pair this outfit with personally. You can change it up to make it more sophisticated for sure.
It's definitely festival season...
I would totally rock this at Sweetlife :)

Let's Talk Met Gala...

As we all probably know, the 2014 Annual Met Gala was this past week. The best part of this event is the red carpet looks. I love watching it all and picking out the best looks and the worst looks. It's always fun to see what celebrities have decided to wear-- as far as designers, style, colors, etc. Compared to last year's Met Gala, this year's red carpet looks were more subtle and glamorous for sure.
I enjoyed all of the gowns I saw this year, surprisingly. My favorite would have to be Sarah Jessica Parker. She always looks stunning and glowing on the red carpet. Not to mention how ageless and effortless she is. It's incredible and I have a serious woman crush on her for many reasons. But...this post isn't for a "hot" or "not" talk. This is a highlight of a new trend/style I found interesting to see on the red carpet.

These past few summers we have  followed the 'crop top' trend. Shirts, blouses and tanks have reached a shorter hem. I enjoy this trend very much but I must say this trend in my opinion is a hit or miss. I am sure we all will agree that you can either look super chic or super dopey in a crop top. There is no in between. I have always seen crop tops as a street style trend that could only be worn casually. This all changed. To my surprise, many artist and actresses incorporated this trend on the red carpet. Rihanna, Emma Stone and Anne Hathaway are the three ladies I saw totally rock this look at Met Gala. They turned a street style trend into a modern, chic and glamorous red carpet worthy look. These three gowns are all so different but are all so subtle in incorporating a crop top. I love that it shows just a hint of skin which adds a bit more sass!

I am almost certain now that incorporating a crop top in an evening gown will be a new trend for prom season. If you plan on wearing this style to prom, consider this a template for you. This is the right way to do it. This will add flare to your prom gown and a unique touch that will set you apart from everyone else on the dance floor!

Caftans and Straw Hats

Caftans and Straw Hats

This outfit screams summer! It's definitely the time of year for floppy hats and straw fedoras. Caftans are a big trend this spring and summer. Printed caftans are my favorite. They are easy to style and so so so comfortable. You can find these caftans just about everywhere-- Nordstrom, Forever 21, Old Navy, TJ Maxx. I styled this printed caftan with subtle colors and accessories. The white shoes and handbag compliments the dark hues and tones found in the caftan.  The sunglasses are a nude/blush color which compliments the straw hat. The balance of colors makes this outfit perfect for an
under the sun kind of day!

Prom Essentials

Prom Essentials
Prom season has arrived! Inspired by all  of the prom pictures I have seen thus far I have decided to make a prom post! Last year during this time I was getting prepared for prom and running around frantic so that my night could be perfect. A few quick tips for those who are feeling overwhelmed with prom... 1. Take a deep breath and relax. 2. Remember that NOTHING is perfect. 3. Enjoy your time and have fun! These tips will get you through it, I promise. I worried so much about my prom dress, my hair and my makeup that I forgot to just sit back and enjoy my senior year and my friends. The world will not end completely if you don't have the right dress or if you can't get your makeup professionally done. Trust me ladies, your hair will be a mess and your makeup will look dewy by the end of the night.

Aside from all of the frantic and over dramatic times before prom, I was indeed happy with how everything turned out. The pictures above are from my prom last year. Don't we look adorbs! I purchased my dress in South Carolina during spring break at my auntie's house. We found it at a local vintage boutique. The designer has escaped my mind at the moment but it was a fabulous find! My make up was done by a local make-up artist in Virginia and my hair was done by yours truly. I was on a budget so I  had to make with what I had and overall I was happy with my outcome. I saved a bit of change and I felt and looked great.

Now lets talk essentials...
In my opinion, prom essentials are those prom pieces or products that can make your outfit fabulous and over the top. Your accessories is a big deal. Just like a day to day outfit, your accessories have to compliment your outfit and add a clean and finished touch. Your clutch/purse is also very important. You will probably be holding it in various pictures so you want it to match your dress and shoes perfectly. The clutch really only matters during picture time. I barely held my clutch at the dance. I was too busy on the dance floor! Other essentials that are important are your mani/pedi, lip color and perfume. These are important for obvious reasons! So don't neglect it.

Happy Prom Season!

ps. If you are going to prom and you are looking for a last minute dress, I am selling this dress in the above pictures. It is a size small/2. It fits very snug. Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing it!

Alexandria Stylebook Feature

Yesterday I had the honor of being featured on Alexandria Stylebook to capture street style. I had a blast being a model and standing in front of the camera once again. All of the photographs were taken by Christen Kinard--my manager and mentor at The Shoe Hive. The silk dress I am wearing is from Coco Blanca, my jewelry is by a designer known as Asha and my shoes are Stuart Weitzman from The Shoe Hive.

I have worked at The Shoe Hive for about 6 months now and I have been influenced so much by many of my co workers and the people I am surrounded by. I have to thank Kathryn Martin and Christen Kinard for allowing me to intern with them last June. If it weren't for them I would not have received many of the opportunities that have been coming my way. I have modeling for two television segments for Fox 5, I have attended multiple formal events and now I have been featured on Alexandria Stylebook. I am completely in awe about everything that has happened to me within this short period of time. I am so grateful for The Shoe Hive, Elizabeth Todd, Christen Kinard and Kathryn Martin.
Thank you all so very much!

ps. I have included the link to the Stylebook post. Check it out!
