Trend Alert: Duster Jackets

Duster Jackets

Hey everyone! Today is the day for a new Trend Alert. I am sure you all have been seeing a ton of post and pins on this new fall trend. Duster jackets, coats, sweaters and vest have been all the rave for the past few months. We have seen many celebrities rock this look such as Victoria Beckham, Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian and more. This new trend is perfect for fall and I would say, should become a staple in your fall wardrobe. What I love most about these duster jackets and vest is that they can be styled many different ways. If you are more sporty, you can pair them with boyfriend jeans, a white tee and Nike sneakers. If you are more boho romantic, you can pair them with a silk romper, a floppy hat and chunky high heels. If you are more causal chic, you can pair them with trousers, a cropped tee or sweater and flats or heels. They can be styled multiple ways which means they can be worn by everyone.
My personal style is more casual chic. So I would most likely pair a duster jacket with black leather trousers, a cropped sweater and high heels. I have not purchased a duster jacket or vest yet but I have seen a few that I am dying to try on. You can find most of these duster jackets, coats, sweaters and vest in retail stores such as T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, H&M, Nordstrom, Asos, Free People, Urban Outfitters and many more. The price ranges from $50 to $300 depending on where you begin your search. No matter your budget, you can enjoy and embrace this new trend like the rest of us.

Ruth Barzel Fall Lookbook Shoot: Makeup Look

Today started of wonderfully. Early this morning I had a shoot with Ruth Barzel (jewelry designer) and Christen Kinard (photographer). The shoot was for Ruth's Fall Lookbook. You can find most of her pieces on etsy and in local boutiques. The shoot was amazing and the location was even better. We literally had to go on an adventure to get to it. We climbed rocks, jumped over water puddles and so much more. It was loads of fun to say the least. After 3 hours of laughs, giggles and several poses we were all done. Clothes were provided for the shoot. I had to do my own makeup and hair which brings me to this post. I loved my makeup look so much I decided to make a post. Now, I am not a professional makeup artist but thanks to YouTube and many makeup consultations I have mastered a few everyday looks that work for me.

Now you can almost guess that I am wearing the Bareskin foundation as well as the MAC prolong wear concealer. For the most part this look consist of drug store makeup, so this look can be achieved with little cost. The most definition in this look comes from the lips. I am wearing a MAC lip pencil called Cork. This lip pencil is very mute and subtle. It has a brown undertone which is perfect for achieving that "Kylie Jenner lip". This lip color is also one of the colors mentioned in my fall trend alert for super trendy lip colors! For my eyes I used the NYX natural palette. You can find this palette at Target for a very affordable price. I finished the look with a MAC glowing bronzer, highlighter and liquid liner. In my opinion, a little goes a long way with makeup. So I never really go all out with my makeup looks, especially for everyday looks.

Less is more!

Bare Minerals: Bareskin Foundation Review

Happy Sunday my loves. I am coming to you all with another product review. For months I have been wanting to try the new Bare Minerals Bareskin Pure Brightening Foundation. Finally, last week I went into Ulta by my house and consulted with a Bare Minerals Rep. She was so nice and the experience was awesome. After an hour or so with a ton of questions and a few applications of the foundation I found the perfect match. If you all are not familiar with the foundation it feels like a serum once you apply it to your face. It seems very oily and dewy but as it sets it is pretty matte. You have to purchase the foundation brush as well. The brush works wonders with this foundation. At first I was skeptical of buying the brush but I am glad I did! The brush is so soft and sleek. The foundation is fair/medium coverage so it is perfect for everyday looks. Overall my experience with these products have been great!

I can pretty much say the Bareskin foundation is my new favorite foundation!

Red Stripes

Hey hey hey! I have decided to do this off the wall outfit post from today because I absolutely love this look! Today I  had a lot of errands to run before the start of DC Fashion Week tomorrow. I knew I would be running around like crazy so I literally threw on this look without much thought and it turned out super cute. Keep reading for all the outfit details.

My shirt is Free People but I purchased it from Nordstrom Rack on sale. It was originally around $70 but I paid only $35 for it. It was definitely a great fashion find! My boyfriend jeans are Levi's.  I purchased them from the outlet store in Leesburg so they were also a great deal. I have had them for a few years now and I am kind of surprised I can still fit them! I don't know if that is good or bad :) My shoes are the infamous Sam Edelman Petty booties. These have definitely become a classic. I purchased them from The Shoe Hive in Oldtown, Alexandria. They are $140, but because I work at The Hive, I got an amazing deal on them. My clutch is Coach which I purchased at the Coach Outlet in Tanger Outlets. Now this was basically a steal! They were having an amazing sale. Everything in the store on clearance was an additional 50% off. I know, I was in shock! I believe this deal is still going on this weekend, if you all are interested! My accessories are fairly simple. I am wearing my classic gold watch from Pink Accessories and my rose gold diamond pendant necklace from She's Unique. That's it guys. This look is fairly simple and the pieces didn't cost much to purchase.

I loved styling and capturing this look for you all!

Fall Favorites 2014

Fall Favorites

Fall is right around the corner! The weather is beginning to change and I am ecstatic about it all. Fall is my favorite season, the weather is great, no allergies, no insane bugs and most importantly GREAT fashion. There is so much potential and excitement in fall fashion. There is so many styles, details, and accessories that make up a single fall wardrobe. It was so hard figuring out what I considered my fall favorites  for this upcoming fall season. After a lot of thought and consideration I came up with 7 fall favorites that I believe are worth purchasing! And with the help of we can get these items in such a way that you will not believe.
Raise specializes in the buying and selling of gift cards. I know, sounds crazy right? But actually this online marketplace is a great resource for us fashion fanatics. You are able to buy discounted gift cards to your favorite stores such as Macy's, Target, etc. You are also able to sell your unwanted gift cards for cash. So all of the gift cards from grandma and grandpa to stores you have no interest in do not have to go to waste now. Great, right! Click the links below for more information on the process of buying and selling gift cards on
Now let us discuss what I am digging this fall! My fall favorites are pertaining to my own personal style. I love a lot of baggy, androgynous looks for fall. My first favorite is the wool floppy hat. I suggest everyone get at least one hat this winter. It makes all the difference. A chic hat can change a simple outfit into a high fashion street style look. Next are the oxford loafers. I have also been a fanatic for oxfords but the new styles and designs that I have seen thus far are completely to die for. My third favorite is the leather tote. A simple tote bag is all I need. Seriously, with the right leather tote you can conquer the world (dramatic I know). Next is the cape/poncho sweater. I am just showing one version of this style but there are so many different designs and variations to choose from. I personally believe that the bigger and baggier the sweater, the better! Of course I had to include the boyfriend jeans. I live in these jeans all year around but I love pairing them with baggy sweaters, blazers and scarves in the fall. It looks so effortless. My next favorite is the cropped knit sweater. I think that this piece is timeless and is very versatile. You can pair a cropped sweater with a long maxi dress, jeans, a midi skirt or harem pants. Last but not least is my absolute favorite, the midi skirt. I have fallen madly in love with midi skirts this year. I especially love the midi skirts with oxford loafers. It is definitely a throw back to the 20s. That's it! Those are my 7 fall favorites for 2014. If you all have not done your fall shopping, I hope you all took away some great tips and ideas that will help you!
Fall, we're ready for you!

Saying Hello

Hi everyone! I know it has been so long since my last post so I want to apologize for my absence. So much has changed for me within these past few months! I got a new job, I am back in school and I am looking for my first apartment. I have been busy busy busy! But anyway, I am coming to you all with another outfit post. This outfit was inspired by NYFW street style. I saw a ton of beautiful and chic outfits from NYFW that I absolutely fell in love with. The most inspiring styles where the mod chic looks. A lot of people were wearing midi tulle skirts with crop tops, tank tops and blouses paired with adorable pumps and oxford loafers. This style reminds me so much of Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City (my all time favorite movie/show). See below for all outfit details.

My skirt is Forever 21. I purchased this midi/maxi skirt about 2 summers ago and it is still timeless in my wardrobe. I believe it was initially a maxi skirt but because of my height it fits me more like a midi skirt. It is very light weight and it has an elastic band around the waist which is what I love about this skirt. The band makes it super comfortable. My basic tank top is from H&M. This tank is also a staple in my wardrobe. It is cut low on the sides so it gives a little bare peak which I love. My necklace is from Forever 21 as well. It is SO old I cannot even remember how much  I paid for it. I'm usually not one to wear bold costume jewelry but I felt as though this outfit needed something bold. My shoes are the low wedge strappy heels I mentioned in a few post before. Unfortunately they are getting old :( so I had to throw them away. So sad. I'm sure I'll find another pair just like them next summer! I hope you all enjoyed this post and again, I apologize for my absence.

Stay tuned for more product reviews, style post, trend alerts and so much more on Broke City Grl!

Warby Parker: Fall Collection Launch

Hi everyone!

I am coming to you all with a fabulous company. Warby Parker was introduced to me about a week or so ago. The company specializes in women's and men's sunwear and  optical eyewear. They have many different styles and colors to pick from. You can find a pair of shades or readers that fit your personal style in no time! If you all are not familiar with this company you should click the link to go directly to their website; Warby Parker. What I love most about this company is their  "give back" concept.  Their motto is "Buy a pair, Give a pair". I love that companies are lending a helping hand to those who are less fortunate. Another bonus for Warby Parker is the quality of their products. They are amazing and very stylish! Each frame is created with great design and great quality. The company has retail stores in NYC, Boston, Dallas and Los Angeles. Their website includes their background and history, their product construction and design process and so much more interesting facts.

With the release of their new fall collection, I maneuvered around their website and took a look at their product. I found it very helpful and interesting that they offer several options when purchasing eyewear. These options include prescription lenses, progressive lenses and single-vision lenses. I found this aspect very helpful. If you wear glasses you understand why! I wore glasses all through out high school and every once in a while I have to pull them out of my closet-- especially during the school year. My glasses are not that trendy or stylish so I am super happy that I found a company that has such great optical eyewear. It is so hard to find good quality glasses at a reasonable price. They have nine new and fabulous frames that range from $95 to $300. A few of my favorites from their new fall collection include the Coley Crystal in clear, the Baxter Ti in sugar maple and Durand in woodland tortoise. They are all very unique.

If you love these styles, you should check them out.  They have many more!
