Recap: Ruth Barzel Fall/Winter 2014 Lookbook

Hi everyone! As I mentioned a while back, I had the honor of modeling for Ruth Barzel's Fall/Winter Lookbook. Ruth Barzel is a local jewelry designer and she is an amazing person. We met during a work day at The Shoe Hive. Thanks to a little bit of networking and friendly chit chat I was offered this opportunity. You can find most of her pieces on her Etsy shop if you are interested. Click the link below to access her shop! https://www.etsy.com/shop/barzel

Our shoot went wonderfully! It was so much fun to be apart of this. All photographs were taken by Christen Kinard, manager at The Shoe Hive. This shoot was a challenge for us all. The location was beautiful as you can see but getting there was not easy. There was a lot of climbing and jumping over water. But it was all worth it. I have always loved being photographed so when this opportunity came up, I couldn't say no! We purchased the clothing for this shoot from Shop Anthom in the Mosaic District of Fairfax, VA. They are fairly new if you all have not heard of them but they have a ton of fantastic pieces. They are a bit pricey though.

All of the jewelry pieces you see in the photographs above are handmade by Ruth Barzel herself. They are very delicate pieces and one of a kind. The shoes are by AGL. They are the shimmer suede wedge in grey. You can find these shoes at The Shoe Hive now if you are looking for a comfortable chic wedge for the winter. Makeup and hair was done by me!  I am not a high maintenance model so I had no problem with being my own glam squad :) I have included a link below to Ruth Barzel's Fall/Winter Lookbook for 2014. You can check out the full lookbook there!

Protective Styling: Finger Coils

Hey hey hey! I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather today. I wanted to share this quick hair post with you all. If you all follow me on Instagram, I am sure you all have seen my post on this new hair look. I wanted to try a protective style that would last me a week or so. My hair started to feel a bit dry and brittle so I figured it was time for a little TLC. I am not one to wear extensions or braids so this is as close as I will probably get to a protective style for my natural hair. If you all are not familiar with protective styling it is a method for natural hair. It allows you to focus moisture into your hair with less manipulation and styling. It is also a great way for length retention.

Finger coils are super easy to do! I did not need any hair tools to accomplish this look. I only used my fingers! Yes, just my fingers. Before styling my hair I wanted to make sure it was in great condition. I washed my hair using the Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo. I then deep conditioned my hair using a protein sensitive DIY conditioner. I found this recipe on YouTube from one of my favorite YouTube personalities, Naptural85. She has so many great DIY deep condition treatments for natural hair. I used her DIY protein sensitive conditioner and left it on my hair with a shower cap for an hour. I then followed up with my favorite conditioner, Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner. My hair felt so amazing after this treatment. I also use African Royale Hot Six oil to seal in all of the moisture after washing and conditioning my hair. I have been using this oil for years! It works great for my hair.

Then it was time for the styling. I coated my hair in the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow and Restore Leave-In Conditioner (that was a handful). This conditioner is to die for. I absolutely love this conditioner and it smells amazing. Thanks to all the hair dye, my hair was getting a little damaged. This conditioner restored my hair in less than a month. I then used my DIY flax seed gel and sectioned my hair into small sections. Then I began to twist! You literally just twist the hair around your finger and the coils begin to form. I added the flax seed gel as needed. So far my hair is still holding up (day 3) and I love it.

If you all are looking for a great protective style, try this out!

Springfield Town Center: Topshop Experience

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my Topshop experience with you all. On Tuesday, my mother and I decided to go to the new Springfield Town Center. It opened last Friday night, I believe. I was unable to make the grand opening because of work but I could not wait to see the transformation! My first stop was Topshop. I have fallen in love with Topshop! There debut in Nordstrom was the start of it all. I love the esthetic of the brand. It is very pop culture with a taste of chic and professionalism.
As you walk into Springfield Town Center, the first thing you see is Topshop bright as day. Or maybe it was just me :) At first I thought it looked out of place. Having a Topshop in Springfield is very odd to me but I am not complaining. When you walk into the store you hear funky music, you see bright lights, grayscale colors and amazingness. The mannequins are dressed and styled perfectly. The employees are very nice and for the most part, fit right in with the brands esthetic. Everything is so nice and neat. To the left of the store, they have more professional styled clothing and to the right they have more casual chic, tomboyish clothing. The best of both words. They also have a petite section in the store for all of you petite ladies out there. Towards the back of the store they have a wall full of SHOES. So many boots, slip-on sneakers, flats and loafers. I was in heaven. I wanted to buy every pair they had. Of course my wallet wouldn't have allowed that to happen. My favorite was the lace up bootie (in the picture above). I had to purchase them ASAP. They were only $60 so I could justify the purchase. Overall, my experience with Topshop was amazing and I will be going back soon!
If you are unfamiliar with Springfield Town Center it was once Springfield Mall. It is located at 6500 Springfield Mall, Springfield, VA 22150. They also have H&M, Forever 21, Express, and Nordstrom Rack is coming soon! I am very happy that we have this now. This way I don't have to drive all the way to Tysons Corner for a great shopping experience.
If you haven't been already, go this weekend! It's great.

Sneakers with a Twist

Sneakers with a Twist

As requested by one of my amazing followers, I have a new Trend Alert for you all! This trend has been on the rise for the past few months. It is very special and crafty in my opinion because you have to style accordingly. I first started to fall in love with this trend when I spotted a few street style photos of Solange Knowles. She totally rocks this look! I don't think there is a true name or title for this trend but I think of it as a feminine twist to wearing sneakers. We will focus on how to wear these sneakers with dresses and skirts. I wanted to break this down with 3 different style of sneakers to make it easier for you all to understand the trend. So, we have the slip-on sneaker, the running sneaker and the tennis shoe. I have come up with distinct ways to style each of these sneakers.
First, we will discuss the Slip-On Sneaker. This is the easiest to style! They resemble flat ballet shoes so in a way the same sort of outfits you wear with flats, you can wear with these sneakers. They are a bit chunky on your feet so it is best to add a flirty skirt. The flirty skirt takes away from the masculine and chunky sneaker. I love midi skirts because they keep you warm during the colder months. The pleats make them very feminine, which in this case we need. I would pair the skirt with a cropped sweater or a loose fitting sweater. Whichever you prefer would work. You want to play around with proportions here. So maybe try tucking in your sweater.
Next, we will chat about the Running Sneaker. The most popular running sneaker is the Roshe Run by Nike. This sneaker is very light weight so it is not very masculine. But because it is a running sneaker, it is hard to dress up. These sneakers are best worn with dresses or tunics. The length of the dress matters. You want a dress that is a little shorter. A shorter dress shows off your legs and those amazing calf muscles. Since these are running shoes, we want to stick with the sporty look. Simple mini dresses and shift dresses are perfect for conquering this trend.
Finally, we can discuss my favorite sneaker, the Tennis Shoe.  I am sure we are all most familiar with this style sneaker. Brands such as Rebook and New Balance carry them. Currently, new balance tennis shoes are all the rave! They come in many different colors so you have a huge variety to pick from. These can also be pretty easy to style. Because they are very bold in color, it is best to stick with simple colors. If you are bold, you can totally rock the mix patterns and colors. However, I like to keep it simple. As with running shoes, sneakers are best worn with shorter lengths. I would not wear dresses with this style unless it is a casual dress, such as a denim dress or button up tunic. Usually, a mini skirt and a chunky sweater will do the trick!
I hope you all took away some great styling tips and ideas from this post!

Sporty Casual

I've been on the ball with my outfit post this week. I wanted to share a lot of my looks with you all because I felt as though I don't do it often. So here is another post dedicated to an outfit styled by me. I consider this look very sporty and casual. That is exactly what I was going for. I had 3 midterms today and I was just completely out of it. I hate looking completely dead and rugged even if that is how I am feeling. So on my off days, I usually throw on something like this. It's still very fashionable and it looks like I actually tried before coming out of the house.

My shoes are the highlight of this look. I found these shoes last year at DSW in Bailey's Crossroads in Virginia. This was back when I worked there so I got an amazing deal on them. They are the Nike Air Vortex sneakers, they retail at about $80. They are super comfortable which is why I love them so much. My pants are from Forever 21. They were about $15 so they were definitely a great fashion find. They fit like leggings but they are denim. My tee shirt is a Basic piece from H&M. I love this tee because it is very long. Long tees are perfect for layering in the fall and winter. It was only $5 and they have a ton of colors! My cardigan is also from H&M. My favorite thing about this cardigan is the pocket design. It adds a tad bit more flare to the piece.

I also wanted to give you guys a quick selfie of my everyday makeup. I wear this look everyday unless I am going out or wanting a little bit more. I use minimal makeup for this look and it takes me about 10 minutes to complete it. I jazz it up with different lip colors sometimes but for today, I chose a mute and nude lip color. It seemed more appropriate.

I hope you all liked this post! Stay tuned loves

Duster Cardigan

Howdy! I had another great outfit so I decided to do a quick post for you all. This outfit is so simple. I literally had 30 minutes to get ready for work and head out the door. I looked at my closet and this is what I pulled out! It is pretty cool outside today so I needed to stay warm which is why I wanted to wear my long duster cardigan. Funny story, this cardigan was floor length until it was accidentally thrown into the dryer. A sad day for my wardrobe. Anyway, I am wearing plain black trousers from H&M. I've had these trousers for a few years and I don't think H&M has them in stores anymore. But they are super comfortable, cozy and easy to style. My cream blouse is also by H&M. Another basic staple in my wardrobe that I can style multiple ways. I am wearing my new favorite loafers by Topshop. They are SO great. I got a scuff on them the other day and wanted to cry, but it rubbed right off! I'm telling you, these shoes were definitely worth my $60. I went a little above and beyond with my accessories (not really). I am wearing my staple Pink Accessories watch, my sterling silver thumb ring and my bar necklace from She's Unique.

My hair is that same old twist out from my last post. I simply revive my hair in the morning with water and a little bit of oil/serum. That mixture usually does the trick for my hair. It allows my hair to keep its length and texture. It is important to keep my hair moisturized daily when holding on to an old style. Otherwise, it just wont be pretty. Well, that is it for now my loves.

Happy Sunday!
