My Festival Style

My Festival Style

Hola! In light of the festival season I wanted to do a personal styling post for you all. I will start by saying I did not attend Coachella this year but my goal is to attend next year *fingers crossed. I have always been a huge music festival fan. I love the good vibes of it all and just being outside enjoying beautiful weather and mingling with beautiful people. One thing that I would like to address is the out pour and backlash Coachella has been getting this year. Many people have been using the hash tag "shutdowncoachella". Based off of what I have seen on social media, this hash tag was started to address and protest the fashion trends of Coachella. Many people feel that they are disrespectful and demeaning to certain cultures and ethnicity. I completely understand this movement and I agree with it one hundred percent. With that being said, I wanted to show my festival style to you all in a way that is not considered or associated with "Coachella fashion".  Festival style tends to have a reputation of being very bohemian, egocentric and hippy like. This is not at all the case in my opinion as I feel that festival style can be whatever you want it to be. If this means jeans and a tee or palazzo pants and a crop top. It does not matter as long as you are comfortable in it. Now lets get to the details.

Look 1:
This look is very flirty and dressy. I love the proportions of it all and I added the pop of color in the shoe as it brings more fierceness to the outfit. The colors are very complimentary to one another. The cropped top and the midi skirt allows you to show a bit of skin keeping you cool in the hot spring/summer heat. The chunky heels are great for festival season because they will balance you out on the grass and they will not dig into the soft lawn.

Look 2:
Absolutely my favorite out of the three looks. To me, this look is so chic and super casual. My summer/spring wardrobe is mainly made up of basic tunic and tee shirt dresses. I fine them the easiest to style and you look so effortless when wearing them. The key in this look is the accessories. The sunhat is very unique and the wide brim adds a casual touch to the look and minimizes the flirty feel of the dress. I consider the shoes an accessory as well because of the detailing. This is what makes the look super chic.

Look 3:
Everyone is completely raving over crochet bralettes and so am I. The crochet crop top adds flare to the palazzo pants and adds a great festival feel. The printed pants are perfect for this because they compliment the bralette and they are high waist so you are not showing too much of the tummy. Overall, this look is what you often see at festivals. It has a great festival vibe and very comfortable look.

Do not base your festival style on the street style of Coachella. It is simple, just embrace what you love and what you feel comfortable in while incorporating more festive accessories.

Fringe Fashion on Fox5DC

Hi loves! Some of you may already be aware of this but I had the amazing opportunity to model for Fox 5 DC this morning. The segment aired at 10:30 am. Thanks to my mentor, Kathryn Martin I was able to be apart of another television segment. Thus far, I have been able to participate in 3 television segments and hopefully there will be more to come! Like the others I participated in, this segment was based on a particular trend that has gained a lot of popularity the past few months. Yes, you guessed it- fringe. Kathryn discusses how to incorporate fringe detail without being/looking too bohemian. You can take a look at the full clip by clicking the link below. You can also get in contact with Kathryn Martin by going to her website where she has details on the stylist and personal shopper services she provides. I hope you all enjoy it.

Thanks for the support!

Hot Oil Treatment

Hi there! It has been so long since I updated you all on my hair so I figured now was the time. As you all know, I had box braids installed to protect my hair the past 2 months. I missed my hair a lot during that time but I absolutely loved my braids. They were super easy to manage. When I took my hair out, I had a lot of shedding. My hair felt a little dry and brittle so I knew I would need to give it some extra tender-loving-care for the next few days to rejuvenate it back to health. To start the process, I did an over night hot oil treatment and deep condition. The photos above are days 2-4 of my wash and go hairstyle after this overnight treatment. The wash and go is my favorite hairstyle and as I preserve it throughout the week, my hair gets bigger and fluffier. To achieve super soft and super fluffy hair I do 1 hot oil treatment a week. Using the below products.
I use two different oil mixtures for my treatment. In a glass container/bowl I put in hot water. I use the color applicator bottle for the oil mixture. I put the applicator bottle in the hot water for 10 to 15 minutes. While waiting, I section my hair into 4 sections. I then distribute the oil all over my dry hair and do a light detangling session. I make sure that my ends are coated in oil as they are the most sensitive. I wrap my hair into bantu knots and place a plastic cap over it. The treatment stays in my hair for 45 minutes and then I proceed with the remainder of my wash routine. It is that easy. This treatment leaves my hair super soft, bouncy and fluffy.

Love and embrace your natural hair!

My Shoe Collection

Hello loves. Today I wanted to share with you my very small shoe collection. I absolutely love shoes but my collection is constantly shrinking or being altered in some way. This is mainly because most of my shoes go out of my style within a year or even a few months and I just don't like them as much as before. Yes, this is all of the shoes that I own at the moment. I plan to do some serious shoe therapy this month for spring and summer but for now, this will do. I already have a shopping cart full of shoes I am waiting to own from Zara, Forever 21 and Missguided. My shoe collection has a variety of shoes which is what I like. I like variety and choices. Sometimes I want to be girly and throw on some super dainty heels while other times I want to be grungy with my combat ankle boots. Most of the shoes I own are from department stores such as Nordstrom. I also shop at Nordstrom Rack, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and other affordable retail stores for shoes. I love shoes but I really don't like to break the bank on just one pair of shoes. It doesn't make sense to me.

Anyhow, as you can see, I have a lot of black shoes. This is because most of the colors I wear on a day to day basis are warmer tones. I love my grays, creams, neutrals and so on. Black tends to go with these colors better thus I am always attracted to black shoes. My shoe collection can really be broken down into 3 main categories. These categories include boots, flats and sneakers. You do not see many sandals or open toe shoes because I recently went through my entire closet and donated a lot of things to Goodwill. You all have seen many of these shoes in some of my blog post but I figured it wouldn't hurt for you all to see them again. Below are some of my favorite shoes in my collection. Take a peek at them and keep reading for details!

My Favorites
Nike sneakers found at Footlocker for $80.

Sam Edelman found at The Shoe Hive for $80.

Dolce Vita found at Nordstrom Rack on sale for about $30.

Gee Wawa sandals found at Free People for $120.

Dolce Vita found at Nordstrom Rack on sale for about $30.

It isn't hard to be affordable and chic!

Trend Alert: Funky Sunglasses

Trend Alert: Funky Sunglasses

Hi my loves! I hope you all are enjoying the kick off of the weekend. I was inspired this morning by a few Pinterest pics of these crazy cool sunglasses. I have been seeing more wacky and funky sunglasses these past few months thus a new Trend Alert was inevitable to happen. I for one am very happy and excited about this new trend as I have always loved crazy looking sunglasses. In the process of making this post I found an amazing online website called 80sPurple. They have some amazing sunglasses for very affordable prices. I will include the link to their website at the end of the post.

I know some may be completely frightened by this post. Trust me, I was in the same boat at first, but after seeing a few street style post with people rocking these funky sunglasses I fell in love.

It is always very fun to add super cool accessories to your outfits. They are also great conversation pieces! If you tend to go for a more casual wardrobe, a statement piece such as these sunglasses will dramatize your entire look making it more interesting. For the spring and summer, funky sunglasses with soft, colorful tones are better to wear. This brings softness to your tanned skin and bright outfits. In the winter and fall darker tones with prints and patterns are more ideal. Cheetah print, zebra print and leopard patterns will add flare and funk to your textured cardigans and heavy scarves. If you love this new trend as much as I do, go to 80sPurple to find the perfect sunglasses for you.

Happy Saturday!

Sunburst Smoothie Recipe

Hello everyone! April is in full spring and I am beyond excited to have warmer weather. We all know this time of year is dreadful. We pull out last year's spring wardrobe and realize that nothing fits the same. In that moment, we begin to regret all the horrible things we ate over the course of the winter. Trust me, you are not alone. During the winter, chocolate and ice cream are my weaknesses. I just recently fell in love with the Talenti gelato. It is absolutely dee-licious. But now it is time to cut back on the junk and refresh our minds and bodies with healthy vibes. This super easy sunburst smoothie is ideal for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack time. No matter the meal you decide to drink this for or with, you will feel rejuvenated and energized.  This smoothie recipe has all of the right nutrients to get your body back on track.

1 cup spinach
1 cup frozen or fresh strawberries
a half cup of Yoplait strawberry yogurt (or yogurt of your choice)
1 banana
a half cup of orange juice (or juice of your choice)

Fun Facts:
Spinach is low in fat but high in protein. It also contains Niacin and Calcium which promotes great heart health and strong bones. Strawberries help burn fat and boost short term memory. They are low in calories but high in fiber which is great for the digestive system. Adding chia or flax seeds will give your smoothie extra pizazz and a great energy boost.

The recipe is fairly simple so you all have no excuses to try it out! I would suggest you trade in that chocolate milk and fatty latte for this luscious smoothie and see how much of a difference it will make. I have added a smoothie to my diet every other day and I am so glad I did. I feel more energized throughout the day and completely relaxed.

Start the journey and radiate healthy vibes day to day!
