S K I N PT.2

Hey there, it's the vulnerable side of me again. I love you all so much because I feel so comfortable sharing my weakest moments with you. I know that you will respect my words and emotions when I share things like this with you so before jumping into this, I want to say thank you.

Well, let's begin shall we. So for those who follow me on Instagram, you may have read my birthday post on 12/12. It was not a normal yippie do da birthday post for sure. It was me unraveling the truth about birthdays in my eyes. If you haven't read it, go read it right away-- My Instagram.

I brought that up because I am completely annoyed by my skin. I had an extremely bad acne breakout a few days before my birthday and it freaked me out. I have been working on getting and maintaining clear skin for 5 years now and I felt like I had it down until this happened. Ugh! It makes me so upset. I don't understand why my skin doesn't love me the way I love it. I mean really. I eat my veggies (lies), I drink a ton of water (not really) and I use essential oils only on my skin (somewhat the truth). So why is it not beautiful and glowing at this point? It pisses me off. I know I am not treating my skin extremely well but I have been doing for the past few months and still I get a huge breakout. Why me?

Acne is one of the worst battles I have been fighting since middle school. I feel like the same 12 year old girl I was before, getting picked on in the cafeteria because "proactive is the only thing that can save that pimple face". Every time I look in the mirror now I see nothing but pimples and discolored spots all over my face. I hate it. How can I feel pretty when all I feel is people starting at the huge planet on my nose. They probably aren't really starting but you know the feeling.

I guess this post is really just a rant. But for those suffering from acne prone skin just know that you are not alone with this battle. I know it can be so annoying and tedious. You find one thing that works and then eventually your skin just doesn't like it anymore so its back to the drawing board. I know my dermatologist hates me because I have them on speed dial now. I need answers and quick!

For now, I decided not to wear any make-up, besides mascara, and be sure to wipe down my phone with alcohol swaps, clean my pillow case once a week and sterilize my spin brush once a week. I am also eating more veggies and fruits and drinking nothing but water and organic teas. Gosh, I hope that helps some. Any-who, my rant is over.

Thanks for listening.

Dear Self: Bless Up

You are blessed, in many ways.
I don't think you are fully aware of all that you have been blessed with.
Like most people, you do not know your full potential thus you are not living up to your full potential.
It is not a bad thing, it just allows more room for growth and understanding.
But today, you seem more aware.
Aware of your blessings and your intangible gift this Christmas.
This year alone you mustered up the strength to light the fire within you.
You did that on your own, no first love or last love could have helped you with that.
And because you did it on your own, no one else will have the power to let that fire burn out.
That light within you is your gift.
Without that light you would not be healing, you would not be closer to your happy and you would not be touching the souls of others.
That is a gift you cannot buy at the shopping malls.
Bob Marely knows.
Listen to his words and embrace the meaning of them.
He speaks to you with gentleness in his voice to let you know that you may not have a hefty bank account or a brand new car but you have something worth much more this Christmas.
You have your voice.
Keep using your voice on every platform reachable to spread your light to others.
You do not know all the answers but your experiences have taught you a lot and you are willing to share those lessons with others.
You are amazing for that. You are wealthy for that.
So maybe you don't have any gifts under the Christmas tree this year. So what.
You are the gift.
Bless up queen.

Flares + Forrest

Photography by Joshua Shelton

Hey there beautiful people! I hope you all enjoyed my last blog post on my amazing vacation. If you haven't seen the vlog, go watch it now! Well, the fun is over and it's back to reality. Good thing my reality is just as fun. Today I am sharing another amazing Lookbook with you all captured by my creative photographer Joshua Shelton before my vacation. I wanted to do a super girly and flirty look for you because I realized I often focus on more masculine pieces. To be honest, I do not wear "girly" looks often but every now and then I truly enjoy throwing on a flirty skirt to twirl in. This day was one of those days.

The only new piece in this look is the skirt. I purchased this on sale from Loft a while back. I never shopped at Loft before so one day I pondered in because I saw sale signs. I am so glad I did because I immediately fell in love. They have so many great basic pieces for a pretty affordable price. I feel like this skirt was a good piece to add to my wardrobe and I am always down for a good bargain. Now I usually wear midi skirts but I felt that this skirt was an okay length for me. Usually I can't do mini skirts because of my height. They can make me look a little un-lady like.

Any who, I paired the skirt with this fun flowy sweater to compliment the silhouette. The ankle booties gave me the perfect height for better movement of the skirt. A tall sleek boot would have also worked for this look but I chose to dress it up a little bit. I would say this is a great outfit if you work in retail or are going out on a daytime date. Also note, it is appropriate for office wear depending on where you work just throw on a cute blazer.

Sweater- purchased from Necessary Clothing for $20
Skirt- purchased from Loft for $30
Tights- purchased from H&M
Shoes- purchased from H&M for about $50
Wallet/clutch- received as a gift. From Fossil
Sunglasses- purchased from H&M for $7

Keep shining!

Cancún 2015 | Birthday Bash!

I'm back! Back from Mexico that is. This past week I went on my first ever girl's vacation to Cancún, Mexico for 5 days and 4 nights. It was amazing and definitely a needed vacation. We were all so lucky to have found our resort and flight for under $1,000. We paid close to nothing for it compared to other vacation tours we looked at prior to booking. We stayed at The Pyramid at Grand Oasis which is an All Inclusive resort. We did not have to come out of pocket for food, entertainment on the resort and drinks! How amazing is that. We did however do several different excursions which cost extra but still overall, our trip was not very expensive. We all loved the resort so much. All of the staff members were incredibly nice, our rooms were beautiful, the food and drinks were delicious and the environment was definitely one to remember. I will for sure be going back to The Pyramid at Grand Oasis and I recommend anyone going to Cancún to look them up!

For those wondering, I have only traveled a few times in my life so I was thrilled to go out of the country on this all girl's vacation. It felt even better that I paid for the entire vacation with my own money. That is kind of a big deal for me! I couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate my 20th birthday.

Aside from the amazing resort and beautiful scenery, we went on 2 different excursion tours. Our first tour was with Selvatica The Adventure Tribe which we all loved. This excursion tour included 40 different zip-lines, ATV riding through the jungle, swimming in a cenote and a free meal. We booked this excursion through for about $135 per person and it was so worth every penny. Our other excursion trip was through Sumba. We found this excursion through our resort and it only cost us $75. This excursion included a boat ride to a private island, snorkeling and parasailing with unlimited drinks and a free meal. I unfortunately got sea sick on the boat but I still enjoyed myself the best I could.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoy these photos from my trip and you can watch a full vlog video of the trip on my YouTube channel by clicking the link below. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the trip, how we booked everything, recommendations, etc. Just comment below or send me a brief email.

West Coast Vibe

Photography by Joshua Shelton

Hey there beautiful people! We made it to another fabulous Friday. But most importantly, we are only 1 day away from my 20th birthday- yippie! I am so excited for my birthday this year because it is kind of a milestone. Tomorrow, December 12th, I will no longer be a teenager. I've already been paying adult bills for the past few months but the change of age is heavy on my mind. I feel like time is flying by. It literally feels like just yesterday, I was roaming the halls of T.C. Williams HS with my girls thinking life was made. But boy did life have something in store for me. Overall, I can't complain. I am doing well for myself and I have never felt better about myself my entire life. But you all didn't come to hear me rant on and on about my life changes, now did you. Lets jump into this fabulous Lookbook.

So I was feeling very West Coast-ish today and styled this super cool look. The weather in the D.C area is phenomenal today. A bit breezy but truly a beautiful day. I have never visited the West Coast but I would imagine that it would feel like this most days. I know winter is pretty much non-exsistent there but this look is styled in such a way so that you West Coasters can still get use out of the winter fashion.

My favorite piece in this look is the joggers. Would you believe me if I told you I purchased them from Target for $11? Well, I totally did and I wish they had different colors on the clearance rack because I would have purchased them all. These pants are so comfortable, they feel like pajama pants to me. They are the perfect fit as well. The scrunched bottoms are not too tight on the leg but they form to the leg enough to give you that funky MC Hammer pant. The necklace is the showstopper in this Lookbook. When I saw this at Free People Pentagon City, I just new I had to have it. It lays beautifully and it is so unique. I am a sucker for vintage inspired jewelry. Now the crop top and duster sweater were the perfect pieces to finish this look off. As mentioned before, this look is inspired by the West Coast hence the crop top. I would wear this look during the daytime without the cozy duster and as the sun begins to set, throw on this duster for a more modest look.

Crop Top- purchased from Topshop for about $11.
Pants- purchased from Target in store on clearance for $11.
Duster Sweater- purchased from Topshop for around $80. (received as a gift)
Necklace- purchased from Free People for $38.
Shoes- Sam Edelman 'Joey' bootie purchased from The Shoe Hive for $150.

'Till next time!
